The Dutch tax office or Belastingdienst

Everyone in the Netherlands sooner or later comes into contact with the Tax Authorities. On this page, we explain what the Tax Authorities are, what you need them for, and how to reach them.

What is the Belastingdienst?

The Tax Authorities in the Netherlands are responsible for collecting taxes and premiums. With this, the Tax Authorities ensure that there is money for education, safety, and healthcare. But also for highways, railways, and social security.

Allowances and benefits

The Tax Office ensures that benefits reach those who are entitled to them. These include:
  • healthcare allowance
  • rent allowance
  • childcare allowance
  • child benefit

What do you need the Dutch Tax Office for?

At the Tax Authorities, you can, among other things, arrange:
  • Burgerservicenummer or BSN
  • Income tax return
  • Benefits
  • 30% ruling

The belastingtelefoon or Tax Helpline answers questions about taxes and benefits. It is also available for making an appointment or requesting a payment arrangement. Both individuals and entrepreneurs can contact them. The Tax Helpline does not provide advice on the application of tax rules.
